Venturing into God's Kingdom and Love
Paul Marshall’s new book, Barefoot Revolution, offers an important and rare blend of orthodoxy in discipleship and intimate and transformational fellowship with Christ. Barefoot Revolution will revolutionize and simplify what it means to walk as a follower of Christ when our life becomes an expression of our moment-by-moment walk with Christ.
Paul Marshall’s ‘Barefdoot Revolution’ has important things to say about fundamental challenges of Christian living such as grace, humility, trust, prayer, spiritual disciplines, meditation, rising above the ordinary, never accepting the inadequate. It is both encouraging and challenging. The writing style abounds in colourful and arresting phrases that make you stop in your tracks and think, ‘Mm, that’s a refreshingly different way of looking at things.’ There are frequent stimulating and thought-provoking questions both for personal challenge and group discussion and many an opportunity to stop and meditate on the glories of the grace of God.
Barefoot Revolution provides a powerful opportunity to enter into a more fully connected relationship with God as our loving Father. In this book Paul Marshall provides a deeply personal account of this pathway into God’s heart that is at the same time elegant and practical, well-paced and purposefully soul-inspiring.
‘Barefoot Revolution’ touches a nerve. Paul Marshall gives us an honest look at the sub-normal brand of Christianity to which many of us have become accustomed. But with prophetic edge he takes us beyond what is and shows us what should and can be. He calls us away from the spiritual “flatland” to a life of authentic discipleship, addressing the desperate need for personal, God-ward appetite and heart-level engagement with him. The message is an inconvenient one for today’s church on the busy highway of distraction. But I believe it’s an urgent one that needs to be heard now. Not just read, but digested and translated into choices that will revolutionize our journey as Christ’s disciples.
It’s been more than two decades since I rededicated my life to Christ and seriously started seeking a closer relationship with him. Since that time I have read scores of books on Christian living and discipleship. I can say with all honesty that Pastor Paul Marshall’s book Barefoot Revolution, is one of only a handful of works that have actually helped me to go deeper with Jesus. It’s practical, personal, and challenging. Most of all, though, it’s the passionate cry from the heart of an author who wants Christ-followers to experience the embrace of God’s love in a more intimate way and then to share that with a hurting, broken world. I cannot more highly recommend Barefoot Revolution to anyone seeking to know the depths of God’s love. Be warned , though: This book will constantly nudge you to leave behind “life as is” for a radical faith walk with a loving Saviour who desires all of your heart.
‘Barefoot Revolution’ is not for the faint-hearted. If you are sincere, however, in your emptiness to embrace God’s revolutionary love, then take off your shoes and read this plucky, ruthlessly practical exposition of how to move from dry flatlands of spirituality to burning bush experiences. Paul Marshall, a missional pastor who has caringly washed people’s feet for two decades in one of Australia’s most ravaged cities, forges his words to bring about dynamic transformation for those desirous of finding God and blessing their neighbours.
‘Barefoot Revolution’ by Paul Marshall of Australia is a powerful book that covers the very basic tenets of Christianity in an encouraging yet challenging way. I can’t stress enough how important this book is for both new Christians and seasoned saints (and everyone in between), and it works well for both individual or group study.
This book echoes the call of writers like E.Stanley Jones and Watchman Nee to devote oneself to seeking a deeper relationship with Christ which has always to be made. We are so prone to drifting into the area of rules and regulations and the ‘leave it to the minister’ attitude, a dry formalism. The call has to be made in every generation, and that is the message of this book. It’s such an important message and so needed today, as always, and this is what Paul Marshall has done - in his own unique way - making the reader see that both leaders in the church and ordinary people need to respond to God at a deeper level.
